B23 CHASSIS REGISTER

The B23 was a continuation of the B19/B21 design concept that had served Chevron so well but although they took the runner-up spot in both the Manufacturers and Drivers Championship in the European 2-litre Championship the B23 was beginning to lag behind in development compared to their 2-litre rivals Lola, March and Osella. Development was limited during the year as Chevron concentrated on other formulae the most noticeable change being the addition of a full-width rear wing to help make the car more stable. The FVC engine was the power-plant of choice for most of the year's best results. The season started well with a win for John Lepp in the Red Rose Racing car at the opening round of the European 2-litre Championship at Paul Ricard in April, but that was the only B23 victory in the series although there were several second-place finishes. At the end of the year Lola took the Constructors Championship by 112 points to Chevron's 92 whilst in the Drivers section John Burton held on to take the runner-up spot to Chris Craft.

There was some success in the 1973 World Championship of Makes with 2-litre class wins at the Nürburgring 1000Kms in May for the Johns, Burton and Bridges (also finishing 3rd overall) and in June at the Osterreichring 1000Kms for the Swiss pairing of Michel Dupont and Paul Blancpain. In the 1974 Championship John Hine and Ian Grob won the 2-litre class at the Nürburgring 1000Kms in May.

In July there was a Chevron 1-2-3 at the IV Grande Prémio do A.C.P. held at Estoril with victory going to John Lepp's B23 whilst i n the South Africa Springbok Series John Hine and Ian Grob won the 2-litre class in November at the Kyalami 9 Hours.
